Sarawakians accepting...

Yesterday, as I was having a drink with a friend, we talked about our university days. He told me, he had an Indian friend who studied in UNIMAS. This Indian fella, refused to go home to Penang because he feels that Sarawakians are more 'Accepting' in terms of religion and race. However, too bad, his parents refused to let him to stay in Sarawak.

Talking about race and religion. I do agree that people of different races and religions in Sarawak mix very well.

Take for example, In a Chinese restaurant, the Chinese stalls (selling pork) is just next to the Malay food stall. The Malays and Non-Malays can sit in one table although they are eating halal and non-halal food.

Another example is, the Malay cashiers do not mind touching canned (non-halal) food when giving it to the customers. Well...I have a lot of examples to give but let us just stop here.

Religious practice in Sarawak is more open. There's no hatred among different religions. So far, you do not hear riots or pickets. Churches bloom very well, mosques are everywhere and Chinese temples stood high above the ground...look at these photos taken by me few days ago.

A magnificent view. Having said all these, I am proud to be Malaysian, because although we are a Muslim country, still other religions have the freedom to perform their religious rituals. We will continue to pray for the peace and prosperity of Malaysia.

Tolerance is an important aspect in today's world. Unfortunately, globalization seems to be opening up old wounds.

I think accepting is a two-way process. As long as we treat and respect others irrespective of their origins and religions the way exactly how we wish to be treated then harmony and goodwill will prevail.
